Keara Murphy's documentary,
The Secret Sex Life of Robert Burns, aired on BBC Radio Scotland on Burns' Day 2015 and was picked up for BBC Radio 4's Pick Of The Week!

The documentary traces Burns' notorious reputation as a womanizer and focuses on the lives of those women who had the fortune or misfortune of encountering our National Poet in their lifetime. Who were these women? What was their relationship with Burns like? And what happened to them after Burns was finished with them? These stories are warm, heartfelt, funny, tragic and heartbreaking.

The Secret Sex Life of Robert Burns was commissioned for a live performance at The Scottish Storytelling Centre, Edinburgh, as part of their Burns Festival 2016 to a sell-out crowd. This is a full night of theatre, with a 20 minute interval, filled with comedy, poetry, songs, drama, live music and storytelling. We are now preparing this show for touring.

The show was presented by Keara Murphy and produced by Louise Yeoman
 via The BBC Radio Scotland's in-house history department, with a range of contributors including Professor Robert Crawford, author of The Bard; Chris Waddell from Burns' Birthplace Museum; Historian, Dr Katie Barclay; and curator of The Georgian House and Dr Sheonagh Martin - along with readings and songs from some of Scotland's best known actors and musicians.

Two more shows about Robert Burns Secret Life were commissioned. The Secret Tax Life of Robert Burns - which aired in January 2016 - deals with the poet's troubled finances and the third in the series, The Secret Rock 'n' Roll Life of Robert Burns, charting his behaviour on tour, will go out on Burns' Day, ie; 25 January 2017.

Robert Burns seduced many women. He fathered 12 or possibly 13 children to three or four different women. But it is possible that he fathered many more. Some say up to 25. Alas, many of the unknown women never came forward, slipped their babies into relatives or worse, committed suicide for fear of scandal and destitution. The Secret Sex Life of Robert Burns explores Robert Burns' complicated relationships with the 'Fairer Sex' and finds some answers -  and even more questions.

Ae Fond Kiss (For Agnes McLehose - aka Clarinda - Above)
"Had we never lov'd sae kindly,

Had we never lov'd sae blindly,
Never met - or never parted,
We had ne'er been broken-hearted."

My Luve Is Like A Red, Red Rose

"O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile."

My Jean
"There wild woods grow, and rivers row

And monie a hill’s between;

But day and night my fancy’s flight

Is ever wi’ my Jean."

To Mary In Heaven
"Thou ling'ring star, with less'ning ray,
That lov'st to greet the early morn,
Again thou usher'st in the day
My Mary from my soul was torn.
O Mary! dear departed shade!
Where is thy place of blissful rest?
Seest thou thy lover lowly laid?
Hear'st thou the groans that rend his breast?"
